Black Cherry Chipotle and Havarti Grilled Cheese: A Gourmet Twist on a Classic

  • 4 slices artisan bread (like sourdough or rustic white)

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 oz Havarti cheese, sliced

  • 2 tbsp black cherry preserves

  • 12 tsp chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

  • Optional: fresh arugula or baby spinach for a peppery bite


Instructions

  • Make the Cherry-Chipotle Spread:

    • In a small bowl, mix the black cherry preserves with the chopped chipotle peppers until well combined.

    • Taste and adjust the heat level by adding more or less chipotle as desired.

  • Assemble the Sandwiches:

    • Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.

    • On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer the Havarti cheese evenly.

    • Spoon the black cherry chipotle spread over the cheese.

    • Add a handful of arugula or spinach if using.

    • Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.

  • Grill the Sandwiches:

    • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

    • Grill the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing slightly with a spatula, until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.

 

  • Serve:

    • Slice in half and serve warm, optionally with a side of chips, salad, or pickles.
