Caramel Popcorn Garland Recipe

  • Author: Hannah

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped plain popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • Optional: dried cranberries or pretzel pieces for added decoration

Instructions

1. Pop the Popcorn:

  • Pop your kernels using an air popper or stovetop (avoid buttered microwave popcorn).

  • Measure out 10 cups and spread on parchment paper or in a large bowl. Remove unpopped kernels.

2. Make the Caramel:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt.

  • Stir continuously until the mixture begins to boil.

  • Let boil without stirring for 4–5 minutes.

  • Remove from heat and quickly stir in baking soda and vanilla — it will foam up slightly.

3. Coat the Popcorn:

  • Immediately pour the caramel over the popcorn and stir to coat evenly.

  • Spread on parchment-lined trays to cool.

  • Let sit for 20–30 minutes, until cool and firm.

4. Thread the Garland:

  • Once the caramel popcorn is firm but not too brittle, use a needle and thread to string pieces together.

  • Be gentle to avoid breaking the popcorn. Alternate with dried cranberries or small pretzels for a decorative touch.
