Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Bake: A Comforting and Flavorful Dish

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

 

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.

  • Boil Vegetables: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add broccoli and cauliflower, and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.

  • Make Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly. Slowly add milk, stirring until smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  • Add Cheese: Remove the sauce from heat and stir in ¾ cup cheddar cheese and ¼ cup Parmesan cheese until melted.

  • Assemble the Dish: Place the broccoli and cauliflower in the baking dish. Pour the cheese sauce over the vegetables and gently mix.

  • Top and Bake: Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup cheddar cheese, ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, and paprika over the top. Add breadcrumbs for extra crunch, if desired.

  • Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

 

  • Serve and Enjoy: Let cool slightly before serving. This creamy, cheesy bake is perfect as a side dish or a comforting main meal! 🧀🥦
