Cherry Almond Danish Pastries: A Deliciously Sweet and Flaky Treat

For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • ½ cup cherry preserves or cherry pie filling

  • ¼ cup sliced almonds

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For the Almond Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp almond extract


Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Make the Cream Cheese Filling:

    • In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  • Cut & Shape the Pastries:

    • Roll out puff pastry and cut into 4-6 squares.

    • Place a spoonful of cream cheese filling in the center of each square.

    • Add a spoonful of cherry preserves on top.

    • Fold the corners slightly toward the center or twist into pinwheel or braid shapes.

  • Bake the Pastries:

    • Brush edges with beaten egg.

    • Sprinkle with sliced almonds.

    • Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.

 

  • Make the Glaze & Serve:

    • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to create a smooth glaze.

    • Drizzle over warm pastries before serving.
