Chocolate Peppermint Bread Recipe: A Delicious Holiday Treat

For the Bread:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

¾ cup granulated sugar

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter (melted)

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp peppermint extract

¾ cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp vinegar)

½ cup mini chocolate chips

For the Glaze & Topping:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk (or more as needed)

½ tsp peppermint extract

¼ cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes


Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

 

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.

In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and peppermint extract.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, until just combined.

Fold in mini chocolate chips.

Bake the Bread:

6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.

7. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

 

Make the Glaze & Decorate:

9. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract until smooth.

10. Drizzle glaze over the cooled bread and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies.

 

Serve:

11. Slice and enjoy with a cup of hot cocoa or coffee!
