Chocolate Rose Donuts: A Decadent Treat with Elegant Flair

  • Author: Hannah

Ingredients

Scale

For the donuts:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (whole or buttermilk)

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for extra depth of flavor)

For the chocolate glaze:

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup heavy cream

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the rose decoration:

1/2 cup white chocolate chips (melted)

Red or pink food coloring

Edible gold glitter (optional, for an extra elegant touch)

Fresh or edible rose petals (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or spray a donut pan with non-stick spray.

2. Make the donut batter:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until combined.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.

Slowly add the boiling water (or hot coffee) to the batter and mix well until you have a thin, smooth consistency.

3. Bake the donuts:

Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.

Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean.

Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Prepare the chocolate glaze:

In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter. Stir until smooth and melted.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let the glaze cool slightly to thicken.

5. Decorate the donuts:

Dip each cooled donut into the chocolate glaze, ensuring the top is evenly coated. Let the excess drip off.

Place the donuts back on the wire rack to set the glaze.

6. Make the rose design:

Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave or over a double boiler.

Add a few drops of red or pink food coloring to the melted white chocolate, stirring to get your desired shade.

Use a piping bag or a plastic sandwich bag with the tip cut off to pipe rose shapes onto the glazed donuts.

If desired, sprinkle edible gold glitter over the roses for a touch of elegance.

Optionally, garnish with fresh or edible rose petals for a romantic touch.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve these donuts as part of a breakfast or dessert spread.

Perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or special celebrations.

Tips & Variations:

Add flavor: Mix in a tablespoon of instant coffee granules into the dry ingredients for a mocha flavor.

Fill them up: For an extra treat, fill the donuts with chocolate ganache or raspberry jam before glazing.

Make it gluten-free: Use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend to replace the all-purpose flour.
