Cuban Sandwich Recipe: The Ultimate Guide to Making This Classic Cuban Delight

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread (or French bread if unavailable)

  • 4 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

  • ½ lb sliced roasted pork (mojo pork preferred)

  • ½ lb sliced deli ham

  • ¼ cup sliced dill pickles

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened


Instructions

  • Prep the Bread:

    • Slice the Cuban bread in half lengthwise.

    • Spread yellow mustard on both sides of the bread.

  • Layer the Fillings:

    • On the bottom half, layer:

      • 2 slices Swiss cheese

      • All of the roast pork

      • All of the ham

      • Pickle slices

      • Remaining 2 slices of Swiss cheese

  • Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich.

    • Lightly butter the outside of both top and bottom crusts.

  • Grill the Sandwich:

    • Heat a panini press or large skillet over medium heat.

    • Press the sandwich down with a heavy pan or use the press, grilling for 4–5 minutes per side, or until bread is golden and cheese is melted.

 

  • Slice & Serve:

    • Cut into halves or quarters.

    • Serve warm with chips, plantain chips, or a simple salad.
