Decadent Twix-Inspired Cookies: Homemade Treats with Caramel & Chocolate

For the cookies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the caramel layer:

  • 1 cup soft caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

For the chocolate topping:

 

  • 1 ½ cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cookies – Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough – Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, then mix in flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Shape and bake – Roll the dough into small balls and flatten slightly. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  4. Make the caramel – Melt caramel candies with heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Spoon a little caramel onto each cookie and let set.
  5. Add the chocolate – Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring until smooth. Spread or drizzle over the caramel layer.
  6. Set and serve – Let the chocolate set at room temperature or in the fridge for faster results.
