Delicious Spanish Garlic Prawns (Gambas al Ajillo) Recipe – A Flavorful Tapas Dish

  • 1 lb large prawns, peeled and deveined

  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • Lemon wedges, for serving


Instructions

  • Prepare the Prawns:

    • Rinse and pat dry the prawns with paper towels. Set aside.

  • Cook the Garlic:

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

    • Add the sliced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fragrant and golden (but not burnt).

  • Add the Prawns:

    • Add the prawns to the skillet, spreading them in a single layer.

    • Sprinkle with red pepper flakes, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.

    • Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until the prawns turn pink and opaque.

  • Finish the Dish:

    • Add lemon juice to the pan and stir to combine.

    • Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

 

  • Serve:

    • Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

    • Pair with crusty bread to soak up the delicious garlic-infused oil.
