  • Author: Hannah

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 8 large eggs

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

  • Maple syrup and fresh berries, for serving

Instructions

Preheat Oven:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Prepare Bread:
Place cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Mix Custard:
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.

Assemble Casserole:
Pour custard mixture over bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak bread. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Make Topping:
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and cold butter pieces using a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly.

Bake:
Remove casserole from fridge. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the soaked bread. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes or until golden and set.

Serve:
Let cool slightly, then serve warm with maple syrup and fresh berries.
