  • Author: Hannah

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicier burgers)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 4 burger buns

  • 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, Swiss, etc.)

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil (for skillet)

Optional Toppings:

  • Lettuce

  • Tomato slices

  • Pickles

  • Red onions

  • Ketchup, mustard, mayo

  • Bacon or avocado

Instructions

1. Form the patties:

  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.

  • Shape into patties about ¾ inch thick.

  • Press a small indent in the center of each with your thumb (prevents puffing).

  • Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

2. Heat the skillet:

  • Heat a cast iron or heavy skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Add butter or oil to coat the pan.

3. Cook the burgers:

  • Add patties to the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.

  • Add cheese during the last minute of cooking and cover with a lid to melt.

Cooking guide:

  • Medium-rare: 3 mins per side

  • Medium: 4 mins per side

  • Well-done: 5+ mins per side

4. Toast the buns (optional):

  • Remove burgers and lightly toast buns face-down in the same skillet until golden, about 1 minute.

5. Assemble and serve:

  • Place patties on the buns, pile on your favorite toppings, and serve hot with fries or a side salad.
