1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicier burgers)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

4 burger buns
-
4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, Swiss, etc.)

1 tablespoon butter or oil (for skillet)

Ketchup, mustard, mayo

Instructions
1. Form the patties:

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.

Shape into patties about ¾ inch thick.

Press a small indent in the center of each with your thumb (prevents puffing).

Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
2. Heat the skillet:

Heat a cast iron or heavy skillet over medium-high heat.

Add butter or oil to coat the pan.
3. Cook the burgers:

Add patties to the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.

Add cheese during the last minute of cooking and cover with a lid to melt.
Cooking guide:
Medium-rare: 3 mins per side
Medium: 4 mins per side
Well-done: 5+ mins per side
4. Toast the buns (optional):

Remove burgers and lightly toast buns face-down in the same skillet until golden, about 1 minute.
5. Assemble and serve:

Place patties on the buns, pile on your favorite toppings, and serve hot with fries or a side salad.
