  • Author: Hannah

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried)

  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt & pepper. Shape into meatballs.

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions low and slow until caramelized, about 20–25 minutes.

  • Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Stir well.

  • Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the onion sauce for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.

  • Sprinkle cheese over the top, cover until melted.

  • Serve warm with crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
