Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
For the Garlic Bread Base:
1 loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
For the Cheese Topping:
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
Preparation:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease.
Add onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Pour in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Stir to combine.
Let simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
Brush the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the French bread.
Spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the garlic bread halves.
Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Optional: Broil for 1-2 minutes for a golden, crispy cheese topping.
