DIY Taco Salad Jars Recipe: Healthy, Portable, and Packed with Flavor

For the Taco Meat:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey

  • 1 packet taco seasoning

  • ½ cup water

For the Salad Layers:

  • 1 cup salsa or taco dressing

  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 cup corn kernels (fresh or canned)

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 2 cups chopped romaine or iceberg lettuce

  • Optional: diced avocado, olives, green onions, or crushed tortilla chips


Instructions

1. Cook the Taco Meat

  • Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick. Let it cool.

2. Layer Your Jars (Bottom to Top)

In quart-size mason jars, layer in this order:

  1. Salsa or dressing

  2. Taco meat (cooled)

  3. Beans

  4. Corn

  5. Tomatoes

  6. Cheese

  7. Lettuce

  8. Optional: Crushed tortilla chips or avocado (add just before eating)

3. Seal & Chill

  • Tightly seal jars with lids.

  • Store in fridge up to 4 days.

4. To Serve

 

  • Shake it up or dump into a bowl.

  • Add sour cream, hot sauce, or more dressing if you like.
