Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks Recipe: Ooey, Gooey, and Absolutely Irresistible

For the Dough (or use store-bought pizza dough):

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 ½3 cups all-purpose flour

For the Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried oregano

  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes


Instructions

1. Make the Dough:

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add olive oil, salt, and 2 ½ cups flour. Mix and knead for 5–7 minutes (add more flour if sticky) until soft and elastic.

  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, until doubled in size.

Shortcut: Use store-bought pizza dough to save time!


2. Preheat and Prep:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Line a baking sheet or pizza stone with parchment paper.


3. Shape the Dough:

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle or oval about ½ inch thick.

  • Place it on the prepared baking sheet.


4. Add Cheesy Topping:

  1. In a small bowl, combine melted butter and minced garlic. Brush over dough.

  2. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the top.

  3. Add Italian seasoning and optional red pepper flakes.


5. Bake:

 

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

  • Let cool for a few minutes before slicing into strips with a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
