  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp dried thyme (or rosemary)

  • ½ tsp dried parsley

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • ¾ cup buttermilk (plus extra for brushing)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and herbs.

  3. Cut in Butter:

    • Add cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients.

    • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Add Cheese & Buttermilk:

    • Stir in shredded cheddar cheese.

    • Gradually add buttermilk, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  5. Shape the Biscuits:

    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat to ¾-inch thickness.

    • Cut into circles using a biscuit cutter or shape into squares.

    • Place on the prepared baking sheet and brush with extra buttermilk.

  6. Bake:

    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.

  7. Serve Warm:

    • Enjoy with butter or as a side to soups and stews!
