Tortellini with Beef and Cheese: A Delicious Comfort Food Recipe

  • 300 g (10 oz) cheese-filled tortellini

  • 300 g (10 oz) ground beef

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 1 can (400 g / 14 oz) diced tomatoes

  • ½ cup tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • ½ cup beef broth

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tbsp fresh basil or parsley (chopped)


Instructions

  • Cook the Tortellini:

    • Boil the tortellini according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  • Prepare the Beef Sauce:

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

    • Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft.

    • Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if needed.

  • Simmer the Sauce:

    • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

    • Simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.

  • Combine Everything:

    • Add the cooked tortellini to the beef sauce and stir gently.

    • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.

    • Cover the skillet and let the cheese melt over low heat for a few minutes.

 

  • Serve:

    • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve warm.
