Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts 2 crusts
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into quarters.
  • In a bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together; then coat the apple slices in this mixture.
  • Roll out the pie crust on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut the pie crust into squares large enough to encase the apple slices.
  • Place an apple slice in the center of each square and fold the corners over to seal.
  • Place the dumplings in a greased baking dish.
  • Melt the butter and mix with water and maple syrup; pour this mixture over the dumplings.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving with ice cream or vanilla sauce.
