Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil, then mix well.
  • Add the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and food coloring to the oil mixture, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting and decorate as desired.
