Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting for topping

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil, then mix well.
  4. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and food coloring to the oil mixture, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting and decorate as desired.
